Beijing: COVID-19 Related Trademarks Rejected

The National Intellectual Property Administration had rejected 328 applications for novel coronavirus-related trademarks and allowed the withdrawal of 866 filings by March 16. The applications involved the names of COVID-19 victims and the hospitals built for the disease in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, as well as medicines and medical services. The administration said these applications would trigger public concerns and anger or mislead consumers. It issued a new rule in late February to tighten the censorship of such trademark applications.
