"Created in China" Shines Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

The opening ceremony of the Games of the XXXII Olympiad with the theme of "Moving Forward" and "United by Emotion" kicked off on July 23, when the Olympic flame was blazing at the Tokyo New National Stadium. Some 206 delegations from countries and regions around the world gathered under the Olympic flag, competing for 339 gold medals in 33 Olympic sports (50 sub-events). Backed by self-reliant IPRs, another Team China is full of confidence in this world-class sports event.

Vaccines: building immunity defense lines

The Chinese government has granted market approval of multiple Covid-19 vaccines with core IPRs held by Chinese interests. The vaccination rate for Chinese delegation is almost 100%, which has built a solid immunity defense line for the Olympic athletes and the staff. In an effort to safeguard the events, China has offered Covid-19 vaccines to Olympic delegates and the general population of many countries and regions in the past year.

Athletes from the Philippines, Ukraine and some other countries at the Tokyo Olympics have been vaccinated with the vaccines provided by Sinovac, a China-based high-tech company. This inactivated Covid-19 vaccine has completed clinical research trials and real-world studies conducted in some other countries and has been approved to join COVAX, an initiative issued by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) to ensure developing coutries have the access to vaccines.

Meanwhile, Sinopharm, another inactivated Covid-19 vaccine provider, has also made its contributions to safeguarding the Tokyo Olympic Games. Numbers show that China has up to now offered more than 500 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines and stostes to more than 100 countries and international organizations, representing 1/6 of the total Covid-19 vaccines worldwide. Most of the vaccines were produced by Sinopharm. Early in last June, the Beijing Institute of Biological Products Co., Ltd., Sinopharm's subsidiary corporation, has filed two invention patent applications relevant to Covid-19 vaccine's production and purification technology to the China Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), which were granted to certificates less than one year through a green channel set up by CNIPA to accelerate their examniation. The technologies have been transferred to some developing countries by the Chinese government to build immunity defense lines globally.

Technology: establishing the Olympics on the Cloud

One year later, the coronavirus is still threatening the Games, with Tokyo put under its fourth state of emergency for the duration of the entire Olympic Games. Consequently, the majority of the venues barred spectators from entering. The virus adds the distance between the athletes and the audience. At the same time, technology brings people's eyes closer to the event. China Media Group (CMG), Alibaba and some other Chinese companies have reached agreements of digital engagement with the Organizing Committees of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the 2020 Paralympic Games.

In fact, the Olympic Broadcasting Service (OBS) expects to film around 9,500 hours of Olympic footage at Tokyo 2020, and the footage will be distributed via Alibaba cloud and OBS Cloud. Based on the core technologies, such as Alibaba cloud computing and AI technology, OBS Cloud transfers the broadcasting and editing work to the Internet, shortening the pre-race preparation time of the international broadcasters significantly. Also, this will cut the costs and lower the risks of gathering. Tokyo 2020 organizers and broadcasters are relying on technology to give viewers a more vivid experience.

Chinese young athlete Yang Qian claimed the first gold of the Tokyo Olympics with a thrilling victory in the women's 10m air rifle! Her family members watched her winning scene in real time in Zhejiang province by virtue of CMG's 8K ultra-high-definition (UHD) broadcasting technology. Based on the 4K technologies, CMG has developed advanced 8K technologies and has filed several patent applications including signal scheduling, multichannel virtual synthetic technologies. Benefited from all these new technologies, CMG expands the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games coverage worldwide.

In the fight against the Covid-19, the Chinese team has demonstrated to the world its quick reaction mechanism, more effective methods and Chinese people's solidarity. All walks of life have made their contributions to providing safeguard for the events and the athletes.
